Reminder:

When your child is writing please encourage him/her to use his/her "own brain."  Help them listen to the letter sounds in words and choose the letter sounds that he/she hears.  You can help your child hear more sounds by saying the word slowly and stretching it out, but please do not give your child the spelling of words.  Decoding words independently is one of the most important skills learned in Kindergarten and your child will be able to do it much more independently if you stear clear of always giving him/her the spelling to new words.  Also, remind your child to use his/hersight words throughout his/her writing.  Using words that he/she knows will help him/her to become more confident in his/her writing!
